Water Resources
Our groundwater work spans machine learning at continental scale and physics-based modeling at basin scale. We predicted groundwater change across 900,000 USGS monitoring wells at R² above 0.85, and our MODFLOW model of the Mahanadi Delta held Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency above 0.78 over 15 simulated years. The methods are published in Water Resources Research and Hydrogeology Journal.
What we address
The problems on the table
Aquifer depletion
Hybrid neural networks integrate climate, streamflow, and irrigation demand to locate critical stress zones across areas up to 450,000 km².
Coastal groundwater management
Density-aware MODFLOW modeling and pumping optimization to hold the line against saltwater intrusion, calibrated on decade-plus records.
Drought and flood monitoring
SAR-based anomaly detection for drought early warning and flood extent mapping, operational in Google Earth Engine.
